Unreal Technical Director

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Other End is a global creative collective and innovative film & media production studio converting creative ideas into breathtaking audiovisual content. Pioneering the accessibility and innovation of immersive virtual production solutions in Toronto, we are growing our diverse team.

Join our collective of storytellers and innovators as a Unreal Technical Director with expert knowledge of Unreal Engine and the virtual production and real-time workflows. Developing content for film, media and commercial productions, you are the technical lead in charge of developing and optimizing our virtual production workflows within Unreal Engine and leading a team of environment & VFX artists creating hyper-realistic, immersive real-time experiences.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead the Unreal Engine pipeline development and optimization processes for virtual production projects in film, media, and commercial production.
  • Create environments, texturing, assets, lighting etc. in Unreal Engine and lead the workflow processes surrounding nDisplay and Virtual Production modules within UE.
  • Work closely with cross-departmental teams and drive the company’s technical Unreal Engine skills.
  • Create procedural tools and workflows using Blueprints and explore new workflows and technologies.
  • Optimize existing processes and develop internal workflows for environment, VFX artists under your supervision.
  • Help team debug issues, learn new methods and drive the team’s ongoing skills development within Unreal Engine.
  • Adhering to the company’s development strategy and R&D activities, develop an internal technology roadmap, establish project requirements, specifications and templates and develop internal workflows.
  • Create a departmental reporting system for accurate and detailed project and technological reporting.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum three (3) years of Unreal Engine experience building, debugging, and supporting complex setups in Unreal Engine.
  • Expert knowledge of nDisplay and Virtual Production modules of Unreal Engine and real-time workflows.
  • Exceptional technical skills, the ability to learn new software quickly and a passion for technological and workflow innovation.
  • Ability to work and solve technical issues independently and lead team members through troubleshooting processes.
  • Ability to take direction positively, work well within a team and thrives under the pressure of tight deadlines
  • Demonstrating excellent written and verbal communication paired with time management and ability to prioritize between tasks and deadlines.
  • Team player able to work in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working within a film, media and/or content production environment a key advantage.
SOFTWARE/HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
  • Expert knowledge of Unreal Engine including blueprints.
  • Expert knowledge of environment lighting within UE.
  • Expert knowledge of 3D modelling software (Autodesk 3ds Max/Maya/Houdini/Blender/Cinema 4D)
  • Expert knowledge of C++/Python; other coding languages (CSS, JavaScript, HTML etc.) an advantage.
  • Knowledge of real-world film production cameras and lighting equipment a key advantage.

Unreal Developer

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Other End is a global creative collective and tech-forward media production studio collaborating with filmmakers, media groups and brands to create meaningful impact through content creation using state-of-the-art virtual production technologies and workflows.

Join our collective of storytellers and innovators as an Unreal Developer with expert knowledge of Unreal Engine blueprints and C++ code language working on a number of software solutions and optimizations of the Virtual Production processes in Unreal Engine.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work on developer tools and unique systems for virtual production workflow optimization in Unreal Engine.
  • Prototype new features and functionalities.
  • Developing cross-platform applications in Unreal Engine.
  • Building Unreal Engine plugins, widgets and UI.
  • Help the art team optimize assets for Unreal Engine.
  • Work closely with cross-departmental teams and collaborative projects.
  • Participate in Company’s research & development activities surrounding virtual production, tech & software innovation and engineering.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of one (1) year of Unreal Engine experience working with Blueprints & scripting
  • Strong willingness to grow, learn new methods and share knowledge with others
  • Ability to work and solve technical issues independently

Unreal Environment Artist/Generalist

Join our collective of storytellers and innovators as a Unreal Environment Artist/Generalist with knowledge of Unreal Engine and the virtual production and real-time workflows, designing and developing 3D environments including lighting and shades assets.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Create content for immersive experiences for real-time applications and film virtual production.
  • Design levels and environments, lights and shades assets in Unreal Engine.
  • Use particle systems to create stunning FX.
  • Help the art team optimize assets for Unreal Engine.
  • Work closely with cross-departmental teams and collaborative projects.
  • Optimize performance of in-engine assets, textures, lighting, memory usage.
  • Participate in research & development activities of in-house nDisplay expertise.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of (1) year of Unreal Engine experience building, debugging, and supporting complex setups in Unreal Engine.
  • Familiarity with nDisplay and Virtual Production modules of Unreal Engine a key advantage.
  • Strong willingness to grow, learn new methods and share knowledge with others
